How it all started...
The Al'Mosta Barn Cafe started after the care home created it's own pub (The Cock & Bull) inside the home and an outdoor beach bar in the garden called (Wish you were Beer!) and also a coffee/ice cream shop for the summer.
These areas ended up providing 'safe and happy' spaces for people with dementia living inside the home to socialise in and have some fun together as well as provide some normality as their experiences inside the home grounds resonate with their previous experiences outside of the home.
From here the home realised that people in the community were also seeking 'safe spaces' where they could visit and not feel judged or uncomfortable because of others lack of understanding and so the idea for a 'dementia cafe' for the community was created embracing some of the attributes the home already had available with a new barn shaped area built to the side of the home helping to create 'Almost a barn cafe' hence the name 'Al'Mosta Barn Cafe'.
And now The Al Mosta Cafe is well established at the side of The Rectory Care Home and offers a safe space for those with dementia and local people in the community to visit and enjoy some fresh homemade refreshments on site in pleasant and stimulating surroundings.

The Al'Mosta Barn Cafe is open to all but is tailored specifically to those with Dementia and their loved ones or carers.
On special occasions the cafe is open to the younger generations and special events are hosted at different times throughout the year where sweets and treats including pop corn and ice creams have been known to be on offer.
